REAL Time - Center Point-Urbana Community School District

REAL Time

REAL Time is an advisory program that was developed and implemented in the 2008-09 school year to improve the success of students by forming smaller learning communities and teaching life skills not specifically taught in the high school curriculum. REAL stands for:

            Respect

            Enthusiasm

            Attitude

            Leadership

Each teacher is assigned a group of students (15 to 18) that will meet to work on skills, four year plans, and building that relationship with adults and peers.  Students will be assigned a REAL time teacher and will meet during homeroom time (approximately 40 minutes).  This REAL time teacher will keep these same students throughout their high school experience.

Goals of the program are to:

  • Stronger student-teacher relationships

  • Increased academic achievement
  • Increased student attendance, attitudes, and behavior
  • Promotion of positive feelings about self and others
  • Lower student dropout rate
  • Development student awareness of academic/career options
