Science
Welcome to Ms. Coberly's 6th grade science!
Floating and Sinking
We have been working on some very exciting science activities this year. We started the school year with a floating and sinking unit where the students completed many labs to help them understand the different elements that play a part in why certain objects float while others sink. We ended the unit with the students using their new knowledge to build their own boats! We then tested their boats to see how much cargo (marbles) their boats could hold, how fast they could move across the pool, how durable they were, and how attractive they were. They all really enjoyed the boats so check out the pictures in the floating and sinking album!
Models and Designs
After completing the floating and sinking, unit we used the knowledge of building boats to move into models and designs. Throughout the models and designs unit students were recreating what they thought the inside of a model looked like (black boxes), as well as using different tools to create different types of carts. They started by creating a cart that would move down the ramp and then later they created self propelled carts.
