Radiological Emergency, Primary

In the event of an emergency at the Duane Arnold Energy Center (DAEC) requiring response action, Linn County Emergency Management will issue one of two recommendations via the indoor warning system and/or commercial telephone – along with the use of outdoor warning sirens and Emergency Alert System (EAS) announcements.  The indoor warning receivers are presently installed in each school.  There are four (4) classifications of emergency.

1. Unusual Event - No Action

2. Alert

  • notification of alert to staff
  • monitor Emergency Alert System (Principal)
  • cancel extracurricular (Principal)

3.  Site Area Emergency

  • students return to homeroom
  • teachers take roll
  • teachers bring release slips to buses
  • students to the buses
  • teachers and students will be transported to Independence (the temporary shelter)

4.  General Emergency

  • announcement over loudspeaker for sheltering of students
  • employees and students will proceed to interior classrooms for sheltering
  • Principal will give further instructions

The public will be kept informed by the Emergency Alert System. If at all possible, families should be united as soon as possible so the family can take the necessary precautions together.  Return to homes in the affected areas should take place only after an “All Clear” has been given.

Students will be transported to a pre-designated Temporary Independence Relocation Center outside the Emergency Planning Zone to await
arrival of their families.
